Whole Dog Summer Duck Training Camp

Enrich your child's summer by gving them Tues, Wed, and Thursday afternoons with ducks! Children will practice the science of operant and classical conditioning,  conditioning ducks to relax, to associate a cue with reinforcement, and to do some tricks! Sessions for all ages, children younger than 9 years may attend when accompanied by an adult.  Children do not need to own a pet to attend this camp, we supply the ducks! But what children learn about animal training is applicable to any animal. Sessions are Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday 12:45 pm till 4:45 pm $120 per week, and can be combined with other Peaks Island camps for a full day of activity. This is also perfect for older children who'd like to learn about animal training, while keeping a good part of the day for hanging out on the beach.  Registration

Teens, Tweens and Dogs

It really is possible to communicate, at a surprisingly complex level, with dogs!  Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday mornings, 9am till 11am in both July and  August, we are offering a camp for youths who are interested in dog training.  We will introduce several dog sports -- freestyle, agility, and rally obedience, as well as some fun to train service dog behaviors. Youths should be physically capable of handling a dog, and participating dogs should be well-socialized with other children and other dogs. Dogs should also be up-to-date on health care. August 29th Freestyle Island Bar-B-Que!

Fun competition and island social. Be in the audience, or perform with your dog. Freestylers will coach each other and provide feedback and ideas to fellow competitors. Costume swap!  $20

Sept. 10, 11, 12  Writers and Dogs retreat:

Enjoy the peaceful late summer, early fall atmosphere, write, play with your dog, get ideas from fellow writers. Instructor Jenny Ruth Yasi's writing has been published nationally, regionally, and locally, and she will be happy to share some of her ideas for reinforcing and training your writing life! We'll also have visits by kinda famous island writers! Go on hikes through the woods, go to the beach,  share readings, and enjoy the support of a very friendly dog and writing community. This will be primarily a writer's workshop, with lots of support and reinforcement, but we can also make time to play with our dogs, and teach them a few skills that make the writing life easier. Camp, cabin, room, or just spend the day with your dog and other writers. We'll leave you and your dog plenty of time to explore Peaks Island during it's very prettiest time of year. $150 for commuters, $350 to stay in cabin or room. Second person and dog sharing cabin or tent, $100. Only one dog per handler.
