Notes: Please wear long sleeves and long pants in cool lightweight fabric to protect sensitive skin from scratches. Both ducks and dogs have toenails, and mosquitos bite around here! If you're leaving your dog here for boarding, we require Sentinel. See our article, "Fleas and Thank You" for more information. Bring at least three or four days worth of your dog's food, as sudden changes in diet upset tender stomachs.
Jenny Ruth Yasi went to music school at University of Maine after growing up on a small farm, but didn't begin formal studies in behavior science and animal training until 1996, in a self-designed major at Vermont College which included independent studies with Buddhist monk Thich Nhat Hanh, as well as with clicker trainers such as Leslie Whitney, Carolyn Scott, Attilla Szukalek, Mary Ray, Diane Kowalski and many others. For the past 20 years Jenny has also been a substitute teacher for the Portland Public School system, a performing singer/songwriter/storyteller, and an organic gardener. Jenny and Albert (Town Engineer in Freeport) grow a great deal of the food that they eat, their beautiful home is passive solar and low-toxic, and there probably aren't too many dog trainers who can boast ownership of two urine separating composting toilets! A clear believer in the value of a sustainable, wholistic lifestyle, the deeper her explorations go into animal behavior and training, the more deeply Yasi is convinced that better understanding of behavior science can make the world a safer, happier, more productive, more peaceful place. Her studies and writing about behavior, human and canine, has been published nationally (in Clean Run Magazine, Pass it On, Mothering Magazine, and elsewhere) regionally and locally. Her Whole Dog Camp Workbook, her DVD "Dealing with (big) Distractions," and "The Boatdog Book" will be available soon for download here. Her first novel, "The Whole Stunned World," is available here .
Yasi continues her studies through clicker agility and freestyle classes, seminars, and competitions, as well as through her work rehabilitating problem behaviors in pet dogs at Whole Dog Camp. A Therapy Dog International volunteer, AKC Canine Good Citizen evaluator and doggie daycare provider, Whole Dog Camp is set up to optimize the influence that environment has on learning. You are invited to stay with us. Stay in a guest room, cabin, and use our training tent and fully fenced training yards tucked within memorable woodland trails that lead to miles of rocky shore and beaches. Featuring a fully equipped agility yard, fenced playyards, sandboxes and wading pool and organic gardens, you are encouraged to relax and have fun while learning in a beautifully sustainable, healthy, relaxing environment.
